Kallis announces international retirement from all forms of cricket

Cricket South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The 38-year-old retired from Test cricket in December and has now decided to end his one-day international career.

Here are a few tips for your first software company interview

  1. Aptitude Test:  Aptitude test is one of the first hurdles that you have to cross to even be considered for the main campus interview. This includes a verbal ability exam & analytical exam. For this, taking mock tests beforehand would help. Generally, speed is the key to cracking these exams, and that would come only with practice. Preparing for aptitude tests is generally fun, so this really should not be a problem
  2.  During the interview:Having cleared the online aptitude test, it is important for you to know the basics of programming for the interview. Generally, interviewers ask basic searching and sorting algorithms. Students generally cannot answer questions as simple as ‘bubble sorting using C’. To avoid this blunder, know your subject well enough.
  3.  Build your communication Skills: Being well versed in your subject would definitely give you an initial edge, but communication skills are equally important. You know that you are knowledgeable, but the interviewers don’t. They need to be convinced that you are the right person for the job. Good communication would certainly help you convey this.
  4.  Research the company thoroughly: One advantage of a campus interview is that the companies introduce themselves before the actual selection process begins. However, there is no harm in being prepared beforehand right! Just do a little bit of homework; for instance, if the organization made headlines recently, find out what it was for.
  5. Know your project cover to cover::(If any) Your project is something you are supposed to have put your best efforts in. The interviewer would expect you to know even the most elementary concepts about it.
  6. Be honest: This may be your first campus interview, but it won’t be the interviewer’s first time conducting one. It won’t take much time for a skilled interviewer to find the loopholes/lies in your CV, and once he does, it is not going to be pleasant.Just remember, knowledge is immense, and you are bound to have limitations. The interviewer is much too experienced to think otherwise. So, just give your best in whatever you know. If you are honest about your limitations, chances are you would be appreciated.
  7. Maintain eye-contact:: This age old formula to project confidence still works like a charm. A good eye-contact is an effective way to let the interviewer know that you both are on the same page. Remember, first interview is unnerving for everyone. Always go in for an interview with positive energy. Self confidence is one trait highly valued by employers. But, it is important to appear confident, without appearing conceited
  8. Prepare to answer common questions beforehand: But remember, it should not sound rehearsed.Imagine this:2 minutes into the conversation, you are still adjusting yourself to the panel’s scrutinizing glances, when you are asked, “Tell me something about yourself”. Though it sounds fairly simple, this question is one of the toughest to answer. You wouldn’t want to stammer now, but you don’t want to parrot your CV back to the interviewer either. To avoid last minute meltdowns, prepare for such questions in advance.
  9. Do not get personal during an interview: Don’t whine about your unfair life in an interview. The interviewer is not your shrink. He is just trying to find someone perfect for the job. Long story short, just concentrate on your skill-set and how you can add value to the organization
  10. Avoid controversial topics like Religion, political beliefs etc:Unless specifically brought up by the interviewer, keep away from this risky territory.
  11. How to handle awkward questions: Don’t get defensive if the interviewer asks you something you find inappropriate. Handle such situations very intelligently during your campus interview. More often than not, the interviewer is judging your tolerance level, and reaction to stressful situations. This is the kind of stuff Stress Interviews are made of.
  12. Get professional help: This is especially advised if you are a little low on confidence. With professional help you can identify your specific weak points, and work on them, rather than beating around the bush.A few professionals in the job consulting industry conduct mock interviews with corporate professionals to give their students a first-hand experience before the big day. If you decide to take professional help, choose someone that gives this Service
At this point, you have done everything one could possibly do to prepare for your big day. So rest assured, think positive and stay confident. Oh, and don't forget to smile :-)

Social media make people feel inadequate, jealous: Survey

Facebook, an online social networking site, and Twitter, a microblogging site, are two of the most popular social media sites with a whopping record of 1.23 billion and 241 million monthly active users respectively. According to Scope, a disability charity, 62% of the interviewed users of these popular sites felt inadequate after comparing other users' post with their own personal achievements. Furthermore, 60% of these users had expressed that these sites made them feel envious of other people's posts.

"Social media at its best is a great way to stay in touch with friends, have a chuckle and learn new things - as well as being the world's leading source of amusing cat pictures,"  said scope's project head, Debbie Bines. "But when things get out of balance and we start comparing ourselves to others, or feeling irritated, jealous or even ugly, it's got to be time to take a break."

Out of the 1,500 surveyed users, half of them talked about fully abandoning social media. However, they also realized that doing so would mean that keeping in touch with friends would become more difficult. This group of users are said to fall between the 18 to 34 age bracket.

India Beat England at Lord's After 28 Years, Score First Overseas Win since 2011

  • Day 1 - Ajinkya Rahane
  • Day 2 - Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
  • Day 3 - Murali Vijay
  • Day 4 - Ravindra Jadeja
  • Day 5 - Ishant Sharma

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Monday termed the 95-run win over England, their first Test victory at the historic Lord’s in nearly three decades, a “memorable” one and said the visitors had learnt from their disastrous 2011 tour.

India rode on Ishant Sharma’s inspired spell of fast bowling to demolish England by 95 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series in London.

“It was a memorable win for us because not many players have played Test cricket in England. But their approach was brilliant, it was a fantastic performance,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Mounting evidence Russia provided weapon used to shoot down MH17

John Kerry (United States Secretary of State.)
Secretary of State John Kerry hit the political talk show circuit on Sunday, saying there is mounting evidence that Russia was involved in providing the weapon separatists are accused of using to shoot down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17.
On NBC's "Meet the Press," Kerry said “there's a buildup of extraordinary circumstantial evidence” Russia provided the weapon used to shoot down the plane.
Kerry said the United States tracked imagery of the launch of a surface-to-air missile around the time the aircraft disappeared from radar.

"We know that [separatists] had an SA-11 system in the vicinity, literally hours before the shoot-down took place," he continued. "We have the intercepts of their conversations, talking about the transfer and movement and repositioning of the SA-11 system. The social media showed them with this system moving through the very area where we believe the shoot-down took place, hours before it took place."
Kerry called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to call out the separatists and encourage them to take part in a political reconciliation process with the Ukrainian government.

"This is a moment of truth for Mr. Putin and for Russia," Kerry said. "Russia needs to step up and prove its bona fides if there are any left."
Kerry also condemned the rebels' response to the crash, calling it "grotesque."

“Drunken separatists are stacking bodies into the back of trucks, removing materials from the site,” Kerry told Stephanopoulos. “This is an insult to everybody. It’s really a moment of truth for Russia to step up and be part of the solution, not part of the problem.”
We are not drawing the final conclusion here," Kerry said on "Meet the Press." "But there is a lot that points at the need for Russia to be responsible."

Taking strong exception to CBSE's Sanskrit Week celebrations in schools under its ambit next month, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today said it would be appropriate to have organised a 'Classical Language Week' in each state based on its linguistic heritage.

As per the communication sent by the Ministry of HRD, while the celebrations would be conducted by CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in all states between August 7 and 13, state Governments have also been requested to organise such events at the State, District and other levels.

"Tamil Nadu has a rich cultural heritage based on the ancient Tamil language. There has also been a strong social justice and language movement in the state. Hence, any official celebration of 'Sanskrit week' in Tamil Nadu is highly inappropriate", she in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"It would have been much more appropriate to have organised a Classical Language Week in each state based on the linguistic heritage" she said and requested Modi to advise officials to suitably modify the letter to enable each state, including the CBSE schools, to organise celebrations in tune with the language and culture of the state.

"This would be in keeping with the cultural and linguistic sensitivities in a diverse country like ours", she said.

Allies of the BJP in Tamil Nadu - MDMK and PMK - had also last week spoken against the proposal
