TCS opens Saudi Arabia's first all-woman BPO centre
Mumbai, Sep 14 (IANS) Indian IT bellwether TCS Sunday opened the first all-women back office centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in partnership with GE and Saudi Aramco.
The 3,200-square metre business process centre will offer jobs for 3,000 Saudi women for customers like oil major Saudi Aramco and the US-based General Electric (GE) in the desert kingdom over the next three years.
"The back office, which is supported by the Saudi government's human resources development fund programme, strengthens job creation and economic diversification," the global software major said in a statement here.
The centre will provide specialised finance and accounting, human resources, materials supply and office services to improve operational efficiency.
"Skills, talent and technology converge at the centre, marking a new era for the IT and business process services industry in the kingdom," Tata Consulting Services (TCS) CEO and managing director N. Chandrasekaran said on the occasion.
Saudi Minister of Commerce and Industry Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabiah, Saudi Arabian general investment authority deputy governor Prince Saud bin Khalid, Saudi Aramco chief executive Khalid Al Falih and GE vice-chairman John Rice were present at the centre's inaugural event.
"The centre brings significant value to our economy and helps address the challenge of creating jobs for talented and skilled Saudi female graduates, establishes a diverse workforce and boosts our competitiveness," Al Falih said.
With TCS's domain expertise in providing shared services the world over, including its customers in the kingdom, the centre will focus on its core competencies.
"We thank our partners Saudi Aramco and GE and look forward to their support to scale up operations at the centre," Chandrasekaran noted.
Both partners have hired 100 women each and transferred their back office services to the centre.
"The centre is a proof of our commitment to support the kingdom in human capital development and job creation for its women," Rice said.
In the first phase, about 300 women employees were given intensive training in various disciplines. Of them, 90 percent are fresh graduates and the remaining have two-to-four years of experience in back office operations.
They were chosen from King Saud University, Princess Noura University and Imam University from 1,200 candidates interviewed for the jobs.

Batman v Superman: A First Look at the Batmobile
Fans who were online tonight got a sweet treat from none other than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder: Our first clear look at the Batmobile. Rugged, yet sleek, it shows influences ranging from the popular Tumbler used in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy to the monstrous tank seen in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
It's time to change our usernames and passwords..! 5 million Google usernames, passwords leaked online
![]() | ||
| ”Google said it had found that "less than 2 percent of username and password combinations might have worked" |
The list was posted on bitcoin forum btcsec.com by a user called Tvskit.
The user claimed that about 60 per cent of the passwords are still active.
The same Google account password is used across all Google products like Gmail, YouTube, Hangouts, Drive and Maps.
Acknowledging the leak in a blog post, Google said it had found that “less than 2 per cent of the username and password combinations might have worked.”
It further said that Google’s automated anti-hijacking systems would have blocked many of those login attempts.
“We have protected the affected accounts and have required those users to reset their passwords,” it said.
Last week, nude images of celebrities were leaked from Apple’s cloud service.
Google maintained that the leaked usernames and passwords were not the result of a breach of Google systems.
“Often, these credentials are obtained through a combination of other sources,” it said.
Cautioning users, Google said they should ensure they use a strong password unique to Google and update recovery options, so that they can get the information on e-mail or phone in case they get locked out of their account.
“And consider 2-step verification, which adds an extra layer of security to your account,” it said.

Apple Launches iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
After months of anticipation, Apple has officially unveiled its new smartphone - the iPhone 6. Just as we expected, the iPhone 6 appears to have a much larger screen than the iPhone 5s and comes in two sizes.
The smaller version will be called the iPhone 6, while the larger edition will be the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen, while the bigger iPhone 6 Plus will have a 5.5-inch display.
The iPhone 6 looks significantly different than Apple's previously released smartphones. True to the leaks that preceded Tuesday's unveiling, the iPhone 6 features curved, thinner edges that resemble the iPad Air's design.
Apple is also upgrading the display technology it uses for the iPhone 6. The company is currently calling this technology Retina HD.
Apple also says this is the thinnest phone it's ever made at only 6.9mm thin. The iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm thin, which is still slimmer than the iPhone 5s.
Just as a previous leak indicated, the new iPhones can display more information when tilted to landscape mode orientation. There's also a new one-handed mode that lets you navigate forward and backward while visiting a website by swiping. If you double tap the home button, the image on your screen pops down so that you can easily use the phone with one hand.
There's even a new horizontal home screen view for the home screen.

Yes, It's #Vijayawada. #AndhraPradesh Has New Capital
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh's new capital will be located in the fertile and largely agricultural region of Vijayawada, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has announced, describing the decision as "a reflection of popular sentiment."
Opposition parties welcomed the announcement but said the decision on the new capital must be debated in the state assembly and voted upon.
Mr Naidu has pledged to do even better this time around, promising a metropolis that will rival Singapore. A central committee tasked to identify a suitable capital in the state has reportedly advised against the Vijayawada region -the panel says there simply isn't enough land there to host a capital; it has also stressed that acquiring farms here will be costly and laborious for the government.
But in anticipation of being deemed capital turf, land prices in and around Vijayawada have zipped up. (Redrawing a State in India Drives Land Prices to the Sky)
Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief of the opposition YSR Congress, which claims Rayalaseema as its strong-hold, objected to the manner in which the decision was taken.
"In the larger interest of the state, my party welcomes the decision and is "ready to give constructive suggestions," Mr Reddy said.
